During the early to mid-nineties the supporters worked tirelessly to raise money to help save the Football Club and contribute towards the purchase of the Broad Lane site and aid the Wivenhoe & District Sporting Facilities Trust get off the ground. One fundraising idea saw the fans take part in an all day ten pin bowling marathon on Walton Pier which resulted in a lot of blisters, humiliation and a decent amount of cash being raised. BBC Essex Sports correspondent Jonathon Overend reported the event and even played a game to gain honorary “SOBS” status for a day. Reproduced below is the resulting pin fall total for those who took part.
