The few but noisy contingent amongst the Wivenhoe Town fans are known as the “SOBS” and have been going under that banner since 1993. Although faces have changed and numbers have both grown and dwindled over the years the “Sad Old Bastards Society” (“SOBS”) grew out of the woe and adversity at the club during the early 90’s when the Dragons were on the verge of closure (for the first time !!) and a few of the diehard supporters banded together and decided to “enjoy” themselves watching constant defeats by making noise and getting behind the team no matter what the score. The adopted name originates from an article that appeared in the East Anglian Daily Times and is reproduced below along with original “SOB” and future fanzine co-editor/writer Mark Anderson’s observations on the newspaper feature from Issue 19 of “Look For Floodlights”.
