“A Perfect State” was a short lived BBC sitcom which had scenes shot on located in lower Wivenhoe back in 1996 and portrayed an English village claiming independence and breaking away from the rest of the country. It starred Gwen Taylor and Eastenders actor Rudolf Walker. Also in the picture taken from the East Anglian Daily Times are Annette Jones (right) who helped run the Wivenhoe Town Supporters Club (her parents Lynne, who arranged away travel, and Tony were also avid fans of the Dragons) and then Mayor of Wivenhoe Geoff Langsdon
Geoff came off the terraces and co-ordinated a campaign to help save the football club, also serving as Chairman for a year during a time of transition and great difficulty. Reproduced below is an article from “Look For Floodlights” where Geoff explains in his own words his involvement in the saving of the club from the initial threat of closure to the formation of the Wivenhoe & District Sporting Facilities Trust.
